Hello everyone, welcome along to this weeks post. In this post, I wanted to give you an idea of some Eco friendly baby gifts there are out there. The reason behind being Eco friendly initially is to help the environment and also, if we take it a step further going organic too! Previously I have discussed why going organic for babies is important and you can take a read of this here.

In today’s world we are very much in the mind set of use once and throw away. Such as wipes, nappies, even clothing! If a top get’s a hole, some people will chuck it and buy something else instead of repairing them. This is quite sad, so many of these items will end up in landfill and never degrade. A vast majority of products use certain plastics which will never break down. Seen those horrible images of the sea of plastic? This absolutely breaks my heart when I try so hard in reducing my waste and living Eco friendly, I cannot understand why we all don’t do it. I guess it comes down to convenience.

Eco Friendly Tableware

There are bamboo tableware sets which are adorable! These sets are made from biodegradable bamboo fiber, which are not bleached. It’s healthier, more Eco-friendly than melamine sets, it’s also firmer and lighter than ceramic cutlery.

Bamboo feeding spoons are another great option. Each spoon is made from food-grade silicone, which is fully dishwasher safe. The silicone head is removable, the bamboo handles are hand wash only. There are also, bamboo bowls and plates to match these items!

Organic cotton baby bibs are also available. These organic bibs only need to be washed at 30 degrees, saving you money on your electric bill too! Reusable, durable and have a guarantee on them that they will last from the birth of your baby until they outgrow them!

Eco-Friendly Baby Wipes

Now this is something that a lot of us who are looking into Eco-friendly supplies maybe wanting to find… Even if it is normal household wipes, Eco-friendly alternatives are available. What we should be looking for are 100% biodegradable ones, also how long it takes for them to biodegrade. Looking into these, I have found quite a few different options, the mum-to-be will love these as a gift as they are disposable and will not hurt the environment or their baby. These wipes are fantastic for any sticky, stinky situation you and your baby may find yourselves in!

Eco-Friendly Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes for any age, being Eco-friendly is important. Majority of the ones that are sold, are plastic and do not biodegradable. I have specifically looked for kids toothbrushes however, adult ones are available as well. There are a few Eco options available now, mostly bamboo ones.

When to use a toothbrush on your baby’s teeth?

Initially, using just a wet toothbrush. As soon as the teeth erupt, you can start using a small amount of toothpaste which is only equivalent to a grain of rice. You only need to increase to a pea-sized amount of toothpaste from the age of 3.

Previously, I have discussed using fluoride free toothpastes in an article here. Consider using fluoride free options for the first few years of your child’s life. This is because they will receive enough fluoride through the water supply.

Eco-Friendly Baby Toys!

Well, for most, as a gift idea this maybe the category we will want to gravitate too. I know I would… Do consider second hand items, saving waste and another baby getting much joy out of them again. There are wooden toys which are safe for babies to use, even wooden teething items which look lovely. Handmade organic or organic cotton soft toys are best. No bleach is used in the process of creating cotton from the raw product. This makes the toys non-toxic and also helping the environment too.

There are more options coming out everyday

These articles are a guide, you may wish to shop elsewhere. That of course is fine, if I can help you come to a more Eco-conscious decision, then that will make me happy 🙂

If you do decide to try these items, I would love to hear from you! Leave us a comment in the box below. Until next time.
